Kay Adshead facilitates free writing/theatre workshops (open to all) at the Alexandra Palace, London. The workshops are intended to support potential entrants to the competition, encouraging an ambitious and diverse approach, but you do not have to attend the workshops to enter the competition.
This year, at Alexandra Palace, during our Women and War workshops, we collaborated with nine of our writer-performers (Angela Garwood, Trisha Gibbons, Judit Hollos, Cherie Hughes, Sandra Mills, Claire Nelson, Anna Connolly-Quirós, Ruth Vaughn, and Wendy Young), along with veteran performers Deni Francis and Pauline Moran. Together, we created our experimental performance piece Crossing No Man’s Land, devised by Kay Adshead and company.
“A thought provoking and uniquely presented exploration of conflict. The ebb and flow of intertwined personal and international issues left a deep impression, like a boot in the mud of no man's land." Rod Kitson
“An utterly gripping piece that took me on a breathtaking journey. Black, ironic, comically absurd, disturbing but ultimately riveting. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.” Jenny Eastop
“Rough theatre, or Holy Theatre take your pick, astonishingly timely and fearless.” Terri Roberts
We performed on March 8, 2025, at the Alexandra Palace celebrating International Women’s Day and on March 15, 2025, at Camden People’s Theatre.
